2020 Cape May, New Jersey

Black-and-White Infrared Introductory Workshop

Join us April 24, 25, and 26, 2020 for a long weekend workshop to explore infrared capture and processing workflow in the historic Victorian seaside town of Cape May, New Jersey!

Based at the Sea Crest Inn overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, we will be shooting the Cape May Lighthouse, harbor of working boats, sand dunes along the Delaware Bay and have one full afternoon of classroom time to process your images.

This class is an introductory level class to learn basic capture and black-and-white processing techniques for all nanometers of infrared. All types of cameras are welcome: converted IR cameras or non-converted cameras. If you do not have an infrared circular lens filter for your non-converted camera, please email me to reserve a ‘loaner’ lens filter (ahead of class).

The class will begin at 100pm at the Inn on Friday April 24 with an introduction to infrared lecture, set up of gear, and slides of locations we will visit during the workshop followed by time in the field before sunset. We will shoot early Saturday morning at the lighthouse in the state park and Saturday afternoon will be classroom time to learn a basic processing workflow for black-and-white. We will shoot early Sunday morning, eat breakfast/brunch as a group, and dismiss around noon.

If you desire more time in the field and more advanced processing methods, please consider one of my B+W Infrared Intensive Workshops.

From using the right gear to capture and processing, this is a unique opportunity to learn how to create amazing black-and-white images.

At this workshop,

  • You will be placed in the best locations to maximize the infrared light under existing conditions.
  • You will receive individual help in the field to ensure a successful capture. Every day there will be hands-on experience in the classroom for processing your images while learning how to manage workflow.
  • Finally, you will have the opportunity to use a “loaner” external lens filter to make infrared images at no charge to you! 720nm and 850nm infrared Kolari Vision external lens filters for non-infrared cameras will be available if you do not have your own.
