2020 Oregon Southern Coast Full Moon

Black-and-White Infrared Intensive Workshop

Join us Oct 28 – Nov 1, 2020 for a four-and-one-half day workshop combing the southern Oregon beaches which boast some of the most dramatic scenery on the west coast. Ancient formations of towering rocks just past the tide line create interesting subjects at any time of the day.

We will be shooting a variety of landscapes at many state parks from Sunset Bay State Park to the Samuel Boardman State Scenic Corridor, including a stop to watch and listen to a colony of sea lions lounging on rocks offshore. This workshop has been timed to coincidence with low tide at sunrise and sunset, and the full moon setting in the west over the Pacific Ocean in the morning. We will be sure to get out ahead of sunrise to take advantage of the infrared light, stars, and full moon.

From using the right gear to capture and processing, this is a unique opportunity to learn how to create amazing black-and-white images.

At this workshop,

  • You will be placed in the best locations to maximize the infrared light under existing conditions.
  • You will receive individual help in the field to ensure a successful capture. Every day there will be hands-on experience in the classroom for processing your images while learning how to manage workflow.
  • Finally, you will have the opportunity to use a “loaner” external lens filter to make infrared images at no charge to you! 720nm and 850nm infrared Kolari Vision external lens filters for visible-light (“color only”) cameras will be available if you do not have your own.
