2023 Joshua Tree National Park

Black-and-White Infrared Intensive Workshop

Join us Mar 13-17, 2023 for a four-and-one-half day workshop in the high desert of Joshua Tree National Park!

We will be shooting a variety of landscapes from the enormous palm trees at Cottonwood Springs to the amazing granite monoliths under the early morning night sky (pre-dawn). During the waning moon (first quarter to crescent moon), our early morning shoots will feature different natural light conditions each day. The workshop dates were chosen to take full advantage of the moon phase for our photography in the early mornings.

Other spots we will visit inside the park include Barker Dam, Lost Horse Valley, Hall of Horrors, the Ocotillo Patch, Jumbo Rocks, and the Cholla Cactus Gardens plus a couple personal favorite less-visited spots.

From using the right gear to capture and processing, this is a unique opportunity to learn how to create amazing black-and-white images.

At this workshop,

  • You will be placed in the best locations to maximize the infrared light under existing conditions.
  • You will receive individual help in the field to ensure a successful capture. Every day there will be hands-on experience in the classroom for processing your images while learning how to manage workflow.
  • Finally, you will have the opportunity to use a Kolari Vision “loaner” infrared lens filter to make infrared images at no charge to you (for your converted-to-infrared camera or full-spectrum camera).
